At 76 Marlys is serving full speed ahead.
After providing 429 rides, she’s not slowing down.
Marlys has been actively volunteering through RSVP Provide-A-Ride for two years now.
Most of the seniors she drives are in their 80s, they can no longer drive, and they don’t have family around to care for them.
She has found that volunteering is medicine for the heart.
I went through a time of depression and I felt so lonely. My husband passed away 15 years ago and I live alone. I did not know what to do with myself. I went to see my doctor, and he simply said I needed to get out of the house and volunteer. Today, I am so happy helping others.
For Marlys, being a driver is an opportunity to spend some time with new friends.
Volunteering is a great opportunity for you and for other people. All the people I give rides to treat me like a friend and can’t wait to visit. I love doing it.
She continues to volunteer because she sees how big the need is.
Our clients are in great need of someone to take them to see their doctors. Without RSVP Provide-A-Ride, many seniors who need ongoing medical care would not know what to do. It means so much to them that I can pick them up at their home, drive them to their appointment, and afterwards take them to the pharmacy if needed.
You’ve made it possible for Marlys to serve with a heart of compassion. Because of your financial support, our Provide-A-Ride drivers can receive mileage reimbursement and supplemental accident and liability coverage so they are free to serve without financial hardship.
You can sponsor a ride for only $25. Every gift, no matter what the size, makes a difference. Thank you for giving Marlys and our volunteer drivers an opportunity to serve.
